Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 26, 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how AREA 87 LABS L.L.C. ("Area 87," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information in connection with the Alumni Atlas service (the "Service"). Alumni Atlas is a brand of AREA 87 LABS L.L.C. The Service includes the Alumni Atlas brand website at https://www.alumniatlas.com, the alumni portal product (Founder Nav) accessible at https://www.founder-nav.com, related applications, and any communications between you and us, including text (SMS) messages.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide

We collect information you provide when you accept an invitation, create an account, complete your profile, or interact with the Service. This may include:

  • Identity and contact information: name, email address, and (optionally, if you opt in to SMS) mobile phone number
  • Profile information: company name, role, professional background, links to public profiles, and any other content you choose to add to your alumni profile
  • Content you submit: posts, replies, support requests, and other content you create within the Service
  • Communications with us: messages you send to us by email or through the Service

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you use the Service, we automatically collect limited technical information needed to operate the Service securely and reliably, including:

  • Device and browser information (e.g., browser type, operating system)
  • Log data (e.g., IP address, access times, pages viewed)
  • Approximate location derived from IP address

2.3 Information from third parties

If the alumni program that invited you provides us with information about you to pre-populate your invitation or profile, we may receive your name, email, and basic professional details from that program. You can review and correct this information when you accept your invitation.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including authenticating your account via magic-link sign-in
  • Pre-populate your profile from your invitation and allow you to claim and correct it
  • Deliver account-related notifications (such as replies to your posts) by the channels you have chosen — email by default, and SMS only if you have opted in
  • Respond to support requests, questions, and other communications you send us
  • Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security issues, and technical issues
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations

We do not use your information to send unsolicited marketing or promotional content, and we do not use mobile phone numbers for marketing purposes (see Section 5).

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only in the limited circumstances described below.

4.1 Service providers

We share information with service providers that help us operate the Service, such as our hosting provider, database provider, email delivery provider, and SMS delivery provider (AWS End User Messaging SMS / AWS SNS). These providers are bound by confidentiality obligations and may use your information only to perform services for us.

4.2 Other users of the Service

Information you choose to make part of your alumni profile, or content you post within the Service, may be visible to other users of the Service (for example, other alumni in your program). You control what you include in your profile and what you post.

4.3 With your direction or consent

We may share your information when you direct us to do so or with your express consent.

4.4 Legal and safety

We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable law, legal process, or a valid government request; to enforce our Terms; to protect the rights, property, or safety of Area 87, our users, or others; or in connection with a corporate transaction such as a merger or acquisition.

4.5 What we do not do

We do not share, sell, or transfer your personal information to third parties or affiliates for their own marketing, advertising, lead-generation, or promotional purposes. We do not participate in affiliate-marketing programs that involve sharing user data.

5. SMS / Text Messaging

If you opt in to receive text messages from Alumni Atlas, we collect your mobile phone number and a record of your consent (including the timestamp, the signup source, and the version of the consent text you accepted). We use this information only to operate the Messaging Program — that is, to deliver the transactional messages you have requested (such as account notifications and replies to your posts) and to honor opt-out requests.

Alumni Atlas text-messaging consent and mobile opt-in information are never shared, sold, or transferred to any third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

We share your mobile number only with the service provider that delivers the messages (AWS End User Messaging SMS / AWS SNS), solely to operate the Messaging Program. You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message, or request help by replying HELP. Message frequency varies based on your account activity. Message and data rates may apply. For more about the Messaging Program, see Section 4 of our Terms & Conditions.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how the Service is used so we can improve it. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling certain cookies may affect your ability to use parts of the Service.

7. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active, as needed to provide the Service, and as required to meet our legal, accounting, or regulatory obligations. SMS opt-in and consent records are retained as long as required to demonstrate compliance with applicable messaging regulations. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your information, and to object to or restrict certain uses. You can:

  • Update your profile information at any time within the Service
  • Opt out of SMS by replying STOP to any message
  • Contact us at hey@area87.io to request access, correction, or deletion of your information

We will respond to verifiable requests as required by applicable law.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

11. International Users

The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., which may have different data-protection laws than your jurisdiction.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice (for example, by email or in the Service). Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
